VIN check FAQ
Where do I find my VIN?
Look at the lower corner of the windshield on the driver’s side, the sticker inside the driver’s door jamb, or your registration and insurance card. It is always 17 characters long.
Is this VIN check free?
Yes. We decode your VIN with NHTSA’s public vPIC service and look up recalls for that make, model and year. Nothing is stored.
Does this show whether my recall was already repaired?
Repair status is kept only by the manufacturer. Use the “Check repair status on NHTSA.gov” button to see whether a recall is still open on your specific vehicle.
